Top 10 Healthy Decisions You Can Make Every Day

An important part of living our life is living  it healthy and happy.  Now I am not saying you can control everything and make everything work out perfect, but there are some things you can control to get the odds back in your favor.  Here is a list of 10 simple choices you can make every day that will help you feel better, live longer and enjoy your life.

1 Drink Your Water Water is involved in every function of our bodies.  Without it we will not survive.   A person can live five to seven weeks without food but no more than five days without water.  So many common ailments can be resolved or avoided by simply drinking the proper amounts of water every day.  To find out how much water you should be drinking every day, simply divide your weight in pounds by two. This will equal the number of ounces of water you should be drinking every day.  (for example 140 lbs/2 = 70 ounces of water a day).  By eating plenty of veggies and fruits you you can obtain up to half your water needs.  Try to drink your water filtered and room temperature when possible.  Remember not to wait until you are thirsty because you may already be mildly dehydrated by then.

2 Get Your Beauty Sleep Sleep is responsible for restoring our bodies from daily stress and sickness.  Ninety to 95 percent of your 60 to 100 trillion cells are replaced each year, and much of that occurs during sleep that comes early in the night.  It is sleep that rejuvenates our bodies.  It is estimated that 50 to 70 million Americans live out their lives on the verge of physical and mental collapse due to the lack of sleep.  An estimated 60 million struggle with insomnia and other sleep disorders.  Our adult bodies require 7 to 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep.  So be sure to get adequate sleep.

3 Get Your Body Moving Simply walking may be one of the easiest and healthiest additions to improve our over all quality of life.  Aerobic exercise is great not only for our heart and lungs but it also helps to strengthen muscles and bones.  Even stretching exercises and pilates are great to mix it up.  Exercising regularly helps to prevent heart disease and cancer, improves lymphatic flow, promotes weight loss, reduces stress, improves memory, reduces depression, increases our energy level, also promotes healthy digestion and the list goes on and on.  So get that body moving.

4 Reduce Your Level Of Toxins At this point in time I would say it is not possible to avoid toxins completely.  But we can help to reduce the amount that goes into our bodies and help our bodies to naturally keep more of them out. As well as detoxing here are some easy ideas.

  • choose more free-range lean meats, low-fat dairy, organic, and living and whole foods
  • Work with your doc to get you off as much medication as possible to help give your liver a break.  This will allow it to rid your body of built up toxins.
  • use rubber gloves or use non toxic or natural cleaning products when ever possible
  • Breath clean air avoiding exhaust and secondhand smoke
  • periodic fasting and sauna therapy are also very beneficial detoxing methods

5 Take Your Supplements Our diets often include so many different processed and fast foods with empty calories that are grossly depleted of any real nutritional value.  It is vital that we take our supplements.  The healthiest ones will combine all the antioxidants, phytonutrients, enzymes, vitamins, minerals and other elements we need that work together synergistically.

6 Three a Day + One I’ve heard it stated best this way,  “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper.”  Plus an afternoon snack.  Your portion size and caloric intake should decrease as the day goes by.  These of course should be healthy well balanced meals that include 5 to 7 servings of vegetables a day.

7 Enough fiber = healthy digestion Don’t Forget Your Fiber.  It’s easier to consume a healthy amount of fiber each day than one might think.  Eat apples and pears, steelcut oats, beans, and high fiber breads which all contain fiber.  This will help increase the frequency of bowel movements, in the process helping to avoid and prevent a large number of unfriendly problems and disorders.

8 Living Food Keeps You Alive Living foods are easy to identify and worth their weight in gold.  They are known for protecting your body from things like cancer and heart disease.  All degenerative diseases and obesity.  They sharpen your mind, energize your body and enliven you.  These will be foods that exist in the raw or close to raw state.  Seeds, nuts, grains, fruits and vegetables all fall into this live category.  No added chemicals; they have been plucked, harvested and squeezed, not processed, packaged or put on a shelf.

9 Stress Less It plays a very important role in our health, the way we respond or react to stressful events.  It’s very helpful to look for the positive side of things when possible.  Stress will come in one of two ways; things we can and should control and things we cannot control.  So keep in the front of your mind the reasons you have to be grateful and look on the brighter side of things for your health’s sake.

10 Laughter Still is The Best Medicine Simple laughter is one the unsung heroes of health.  It can help reduce stress, lower blood pressure naturally, boost the immune system, elevate mood, improve brain function, protect the heart, help connect you to others, even encourage instant relaxation.  It’s the best feel good drug available to all ages and absolutely affordable to everyone.  So my advice to everyone is save on your doctors bills and learn to laugh more heartily and more often!

Hey April,

This was a very helpful post, especially the tip about laughter. I try to laugh a good hearty laugh at least once a day. Doesn’t always happen, but it truly is the best medicine. I own a collection of some great stand-up routines that always seems to do the trick. The other tips were great too! Thanks for sharing. Another one I live by is to focused breathing. Combine this with an activity like Yoga and you will be nearly 100% stress free.
